Squint / तिरछापन
Squint, also known as strabismus or तिरछापन, is a condition in which the two eyes do not align properly or do not look in the same direction at the same time. Squint can affect children as well as adults and may interfere with the normal development or coordination of vision.
At Lahan Eye Centre, we provide comprehensive evaluation and management of squint with a focus on accurate diagnosis, careful assessment, and individualized treatment planning.
What is Squint?
In a normally aligned visual system, both eyes work together and focus on the same object. In squint, one eye may turn inward, outward, upward, or downward while the other eye remains focused on the object.
Squint can be constant or may appear only at certain times. The condition can have different causes and may require different approaches to treatment depending on the patient's age, symptoms, eye alignment, and overall visual development.
Squint in Children
Early evaluation is particularly important when squint is noticed in a child. Properly developing vision during childhood is important for normal visual development, and untreated eye alignment problems may affect how the two eyes work together.
Parents should consider an eye examination if a child's eyes appear misaligned, the child frequently closes or covers one eye, tilts the head while looking at objects, or has difficulty focusing.
At Lahan Eye Centre, our ophthalmologists carefully assess children's eye alignment and vision and recommend appropriate management according to the child's age and individual condition.
Squint Evaluation
A comprehensive eye examination helps the ophthalmologist understand the type and extent of eye misalignment. The evaluation may include assessment of visual acuity, eye movements, eye alignment, and other relevant aspects of eye health.
Our experienced ophthalmologists use appropriate diagnostic techniques to identify the underlying visual requirements and develop a suitable treatment plan.
Squint Treatment
Treatment for squint depends on the cause, type, severity, age of the patient, and associated vision problems. Depending on the individual case, management may include correction of refractive errors, treatment of associated visual conditions, observation, or other appropriate ophthalmic treatment.
For children, early diagnosis and appropriate management can be especially important for supporting healthy visual development.
